Q: What is the difference between Delta Sigma Pi and Alpha Kappa Psi?

A: Alpha Kappa Psi is open to all majors, while on the other hand, as required by our National Bylaws, all members of Delta Sigma Pi must be enrolled in a business program at Santa Clara University.  This includes all majors in the Leavey School of Business, as well as Economics majors in the College of Arts and Sciences).  This means that you are more likely to have brothers in your business classes, as well as a network of similar minded individuals to turn to for both career and academic guidance.

Q: What is the time commitment?

A: The recruitment and pledging process is manageable, but does require a significant amount of time and effort.  Many liken the pledge process to the equivalent of a two unit class.  The value of your experience with Delta Sigma Pi is in proportion to the amount of time and effort you dedicate.

Q: What types of events does Delta Sigma Pi hold?

A: Professional development sessions, guest speakers, company tours, community service, fundraisers, and more!  Our past professional development events include workshops hosted by Professors John Toppel, Steve Corio, and John Hannigan, company tours of Cisco and Yahoo!, and exposure to professional industries through events sponsored by Target, Accenture, and FactSet Consulting.

Q: What responsibilities do pledges have?

A: Pledges go through a Pledge Education program that is eight weeks long.  The pledges have formal, once a week meetings, which include professional development workshops, bonding activities, and quizzes.  They are required to interview all of the brothers and plan each of the following events:  professional, community service, social, and fundraising.  The program is completed with a final exam and scrapbook presentation.

Q: What are the benefits of being a brother?

A: Brothers are brothers for life. Once a brother, you will have access to a vast network of over 220,000 brothers. We operate as a business, giving brothers the opportunity to manage finances, marketing, communication, and philanthropy.  As brothers, you will have the opportunity to lead (as well as collaborate with) a team, plan large scale events, and practice professionalism on a daily basis.

Q:  What is recruitment?

A: Recruitment is a week long event held at the beginning of the school year in September and again in February, which serves as an opportunity for brothers to meet prospective members and visa versa.  Prospective members are able to learn about Delta Sigma Pi through the events held during recruitment week, which usually include an informational session, multiple socials, and a professional event.

A: While the events are not mandatory, we highly recommend that each prospective attend as many events as possible.  We hope that you take the opportunity to meet as many of the brothers as possible and hear each of their individual experiences.  By learning as much as possible about not only our chapter and its events, but the motivations of the individual brothers too, you will be able to get a much better perspective on life in Delta Sigma Pi.  All of our brothers are excited to meet you and will be more than happy to answer your questions and introduce you to others in the chapter too!

A: A bid is a formal invitation from our chapter extended to prospective members to take part in the pledge process in the hopes of eventually becoming a brother.  After completion and submission of the application, each one is reviewed by the chapter.  Those who the chapter believes have potential to contribute to and benefit from the chapter will be extended bids.
